Quick and Festive Ideas for Stylish Winter Container Gardens

The tree has been trimmed, the lights have been strung, but still, you feel like something is missing from your holiday decor. We know just the thing to complete your festive scene: an outdoor winter container garden!
When filled with fragrant conifer branches, jewel-toned holly berries, and sparkly embellishments, these potted gardens welcome guests to your home with the sights and smells of the season. Here are a few tips for putting one together!
1) Reuse what you already have. Instead of buying new pots or planters (do you really need to be battling more shopping crowds right now?), repurpose planters you might already have at your doorway.
2) Fill 'er up. Clear out your pots, reserving most of the potting soil. In the middle, plant a taller evergreen such as arborvitae. Then, around the evergreen, place three or four pieces of wet floral foam. Use the floral foam to anchor cut sprigs of white pine, holly, boxwood, or trimmed branches from your holiday tree! Make sure that the sprigs "spill" over the sides of the pot for maximum impact.
3) Decorate. Now comes the fun part: Adding all the trimmings! Go organic with pine cones, pomegranates, birch branches, and other natural objects, and don't forget to add some sparkle (a strand of battery-operated fairy lights, perhaps?).
